China Says It Will Help Restore Thailand–Cambodia Trust

(MENAFN) China has said it will continue providing platforms aimed at helping restore trust between Thailand and Cambodia, according to statements reported on Friday.

As stated by reports, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi made the remarks during talks with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, where both sides also discussed expanding cooperation and strengthening strategic coordination across various sectors.

Thailand reiterated its support for the one-China policy during the meeting, while also expressing interest in deepening collaboration with Beijing. This includes joint efforts to address issues such as online gambling and telecommunications-related fraud.

Anutin also expressed appreciation for China’s involvement in helping reduce tensions between Thailand and Cambodia.

Wang described China as a “reliable strategic partner” and said Beijing is prepared to broaden cooperation in areas including infrastructure development, agriculture, and renewable energy. He also emphasized the importance of promoting regional stability.

According to reports, Wang added that China, as a “common friend” to both Southeast Asian neighbors, is willing to facilitate dialogue and encourage confidence-building measures between Bangkok and Phnom Penh.

Separately, Chinese and Cambodian foreign and defense ministers held their first meeting under a new strategic dialogue framework in Phnom Penh earlier in the week, further underscoring ongoing diplomatic engagement in the region.
